"Dig My Heels" is about our resistance to growing and maturing on a personal level while in the context of a romantic relationship. When a partner challenges or encourages us to do better, it is much easier to throw up walls and stay in our comfort zones rather than address the parts of ourselves that need to be worked on. "Built on these eerie, hard edges synth sounds, in which you can almost hear the angst, Feren Isles lays down these rather lovely melodic lines, albeit steeped in melancholy.
